The Babylonian king was full of himself and his own self-described “majesty.” He had yet to learn that God opposes the proud (James 4:6) and that the pride goes before destruction (Proverbs 16:18). But that’s just what God taught him. Before long he was living like an animal (and eating like one too).
In the end, he realized a great truth: “all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble” (Daniel 4:37).
This sermon explores Daniel 4, and considers a specific character trait and posture for not only for world leaders, and for other people generally, but for each of us specifically: humility.
The world feels like a game of Jenga – teetering. What do we take out, what do we leave in? Despite the conflicts, arguments, threats and doom, there is no version of a better world where humility is not a defining characteristic of the people of God.
