Ash Wednesdays marks the beginning of Lent, the forty-day period leading up to Easter, excluding Sundays.
This year we will have a special service at Westminster. It will take take place on February 18th from 7:00 - 7:45pm.
The service will be reflective as we consider our mortality and the grace of God. It will include prayers, songs, special music, and readings.
You will be invited forward, if you wish, to receive the "imposition of ashes" on your forehead in the sign of the cross. This symbolizes our mortality, repentance from sin, and our reliance on God. In his own mourning, Mordechai put on “sackcloth and ashes” (Esther 4:1). Daniel covered himself in ashes when he prayed to God for his people (Daniel 9:3).
There will be no nursery, Sunday School, or fellowship time.
If you are new to the idea of Lent, Pastor Ruttan has put together a short resource on blog or podcast episode format: "What should Protestants think about Lent?" Click here to read or listen.
Genesis 3:19: "By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
For those concerned about the roads, the service will be live-streamed on YouTube. Click here for our channel. It will show up as 'live' around 7pm EST.
