You can't see spoken words. They are invisible. But like a small rudder controlling an entire ship, or a spark that sets ablaze a whole forest, they have ferocious power.
Followers of Christ are a “people of the Word.” As such they are called to be people of their word. Yes, this is about keeping promises, but it is also about more than that. It is about truth-telling no matter what, and being, according to Dietrich Bonhoeffer, “a light even in his words.”
