Daniel’s three friends refused to compromise. They would rather be loyal to their God than bow down to the king’s golden image. As a result, the tyrant threatened to throw them into a fiery furnace. One ancient source says the flames jumped 74 feet above the kiln.
Yes, they were rescued. It was dramatic and life-altering. Praise God. But our focus is on the words of these three brave young men. God would rescue them, they said. But even if he did not, they would still remain true. They would rather die faithfully than live falsely.
This sermon continues our series on the book of Daniel and explains chapter 3, one of its most famous stories. We use it to think about the sincerity of our own commitment to God, the priority we place on truly glorifying him, and the importance of “starting small.”
