1-3 John (series summary)
You can’t follow Jesus if you’re sitting on the fence

Neutrality. We tend to like that idea. It’s comfortable and convenient. People don’t argue too much. Plus, people tend to like us more when we don’t rock the boat.

However, you can’t follow Jesus if you’re sitting on the fence. The phrase “follow me” occurs 20 times in the Gospels. That implies saying and doing certain things—certain things which are anything but neutral.

John the apostle walked and talked with Jesus. In his letters, he goes out of his way to stress the importance of making decisions between light and darkness, truth and deception, Jesus and Satan, and love and unbelief. When we take actual steps to follow Jesus, we become a part of God’s plan to bring real grace and truth to a hurting world.

This sermon is the summary to our teaching series on the letters of John called “For the love of God.”
