Well, wow...
Westminster’s first Teaching Centre event took place on Sat. Oct. 3rd from 10am-2pm.
It was called “Like Christ: Practices the Holy Spirit uses to make you more like Christ.”
Twenty-one volunteers from the congregation contributed to making the event a success!
The day featured a keynote talk (and Q and A) with the Rev. Dr. John Vissers. He spoke about the Holy Spirit, the “means of grace,” and faith-based friendship as a source of personal encouragement and transformation. Dr. Vissers has been the principal of Knox College in Toronto, and also of the Presbyterian College in Montreal. He has served as the moderator of the denomination, and teaches systematic theology. He is also author of the new book, "Friendship with Christ" (Published by Baker Academic).
We were thankful and amazed to have 70 registrations, which was capacity for our first event.
In addition to the main teaching session, there was worship, break and snacks, Chick-Fil-A for lunch (with entertainment), registration bags, 10 book giveaways, and 2 workshop options. One was hosted by the Rev. Dr. Jeff Loach, the pastor at St. Paul's church in Nobleton. Dr. Loach also teaches spiritual formation at Tyndale Seminary. The other was hosted by Pastor Ruttan.
A feedback form will be circulated soon to participants asking about what worked well and what could be improved. Links will also be shared for people to listen to the presentations by Dr. Vissers and Dr. Loach.
We look forward to future events and are excited about what is yet to come!
